HEAD LEASE HOLDING COSTS HOME EQUITY CONVERSION LOAN

HEAD LEASE The original lease granted by a freeholder to a lessee (the "head lessee"), as distinct from a separate lease (the "sublease") granted in turn by the head lessee to a sublessee. The sublease may cover a smaller area and/or involve a shorter duration than the head lease.

HOLDING COSTS

Outgoings relating to a property, such as rates, land tax, insurance premiums and body corporate charges, together with maintenance costs and interest, which are incurred by a developer or other owner of property pending the receipt of income from a tenant or the sale to another party.


HOME EQUITY CONVERSION LOAN A loan secured by a mortgage of the borrower's home under an arrangement which does not require periodical payments of either interest or capital, the intention being that the total debt will be repaid on the death of the home owner (or on the death of the survivor of a married couple).
